Build your own hoop

Here you can design your own hoop, right from the tubing to the size and colours, step by step select what you want to see on your hoop!

Colours and style selection

I recommend choosing one, two or three shiny colours, as more than three can be hard to wrap neatly on the hoop. Some people go for one colour all over and I have some gorgeous tapes including colour-shifting ones that look awesome for this.

Multiple colours will be spiraled around the hoop, I recommend choosing two or three shiny tapes and one or two grip tapes which will help your hoop stay up, give better handling and also seal in the edges of the shiny tapes giving a nicer finish. If you want a crisscross style please select that from the options.

Guidance on choosing the right Size and Tubing

MDPE 25mm is the heaviest and thickest tubing I do. These hoops are not “weighted” as such but have enough weight of their own for people wishing to exercise and start learning on-body hula-hooping. Can also be suitable for learning hoopdance tricks, although it may get a bit heavy on the hands for certain moves. I recommend these slower heavier hoops for those who find hula hooping around the waist hard to get the hang of.

MDPE 20mm is a medium weight great for beginners wanting to learn hoopdance and hula hooping in general. You still get a good workout and these are a good weight to learn most tricks with, not too fast not too slow. For beginners the general rule of thumb is to measure from floor to bellybutton to find the diameter. For intermediate hoopers you could take a few inches off if you feel ready for a smaller faster hoop.

Polypro 20mm is a wonderful material, lightweight but rigid and responsive, best for fast flow, breaks and isolations. Its still possible to hula hoop on the body but its going to be a lot faster and harder to feel that MDPE so its not recommended for beginners. However some hand tricks are made a bit easier, such as isolations (you don’t need so much strength to hold the hoop in the right place).

Polypro 16mm is super light! Its fast and makes great mini hoops, perfect for off body tricks and fast flow.

Travel hoops

You also have options here to choose the kind of hoop you want – please be aware that any hoop over 34″ should be a travel hoop to avoid excessive postage costs.

You can opt for a coil down hoop with one snap button – the hoop can be opened, coiled up, reducing it to roughly half its size, and either reconnected if its big enough, or secured into place with string or tape for smaller hoops. Good for short journeys, but don’t store it like this!

Sectional hoops come apart in several pieces for travel and storage. They may come with colour-coded ends to help you assemble it. Small hoops can be 4 or 5 sections, large hoops will need to be 6.
